Create a WhatsApp business account for the WhatsApp Business API

A WhatsApp business account in WhatsApp Manager lets your business use the WhatsApp Business API to communicate directly with your customers. Your customers can use a WhatsApp thread to make purchases, ask about orders or find information.

Before you begin

  • Sign up for Business Manager.
  • Complete business verification. You can’t create a WhatsApp business account until you complete this step. If you’re creating an account on behalf of a business, they need to complete business verification before you can send a message from their WhatsApp business account.
  • Once business verification has been completed, we’ll review your account. Once it’s been approved, you can create a WhatsApp business account.

Create an account

To create a WhatsApp business account:

  1. Log in to Business Manager and click Business settings in the top right.
  2. Below Accounts, click WhatsApp accounts and click Add.

  6. Select Client’s account to create an account on behalf of a business. Enter its Business Manager ID, which you can find in its Business Manager settings.

  8. Under Local currency, select the local currency of your business.
  9. The currency you enter and the currency you plan to pay your invoice in must match.
  10. Below Payment method, select a method of payment for your ads. If you don’t have a current line of credit for payment, you can set one up.
  11. Below PO number, enter the purchase order (PO) number that will appear on your invoices.
  12. Below People, search for people you want to add to the account or choose them from the list.
  13. Select the role you’d like to assign to each person.
  14. Admin access allows people to make any changes to the account.
  15. Standard access allows people to manage phone numbers, edit message templates and see metrics.

Your account will receive a final policy review. You can see the status of your account in the Account status section of the Settings tab in WhatsApp accounts.

You can still access WhatsApp Manager to manage your account while your account status is pending. Your account status must be approved before you can download the certificate to send or receive messages.
